Grandparents

This weekend with Hurricane Gustav approaching we had relatives descend on our house. Grandparents to be exact. We had MawMaw Pont, Uncle Larry, Pawsy Vige & Granny Mac all come visit our little corner of the world. MawMaw Pont and Uncle Larry have never been this way before so it was nice to show them around. Lets just say the little guy was in hog heaven. He loves company. He loves to show off his house, his toys and anything else that he could show off. He played cards with Uncle Larry (tried to teach Maddox how to play battle). He played with his play*do with Paw.

He played play*do & mini skate boarding with Granny Mac. He showed them all his love for the Superfriends, Scooby Doo and the Backyardigans. Overall I believe he had the best Labor Day holiday of all. He didn't worry about any storm and he enjoyed the company. We even took him to the beach on Sunday. He loves the beach. He jumped the waves, he actually made his own sand castles, and didn't tear them all down. It was a great weekend. I believe the family is going to try to head out soon. I know he will be disappointed when everyone leaves.

Dude Night

So my boys had a Dude Night last night. Their first real big one anyway. They went to the pre-season Texans game. When he saw Reliant Stadium he told his Daddy, "Go that way! Circus!". The last time we were there was for the Circus. Last night at the game they had a great time. Rode on the "espalators" and had popcorn. Little guy keeps telling me he went to a basball game and then he says football. Other than a break for a couple of potty stops they both enjoyed the game. Maddox played High five, Low five, You're too slow with a guy sitting by them. From what I have heard that was a big hit all around. I believe Dude Night might be the wave of the future. "Mommy no go Dude Night!"

Football

My little guy is following in his dad's love of football. The other day he was all about football anyway. Who knows if it will last. For his birthday one of his presents was some new clothes for his monkey Friday from Build-A-Bear. We needed to go to the mall so I decided to take him to get Friday's new clothes. He went straight for the football gear. He decided Friday must be a football player. He was so excited to show Daddy later that night Friday's new outfit. When it was time to go to bed he wanted Friday to wear jammies so he took off his football gear. He then went in to the study with the helmet part of the outfit and kept calling for me to put it up. I told him we should put it in his room with the rest of his clothes, but he insisted that we put it in the study. I thought this was odd but followed him in there. Then it dawned on me what he had in mind. On the top of one of our bookshelves is Daddy's Southern Miss helmet. He wanted to put Friday's helmet right next to his Daddy's. So in his words "They could be statues together!"

Ice Cream, You Scream, We All Scream for Green?

So for the little guy's birthday last week, him, Landon & I went out for ice cream. Maddox got Mint (green) with sprinkles and Landon got Cotton Candy (blue) with sprinkles. I figured they liked the colors and that is how they made their choices. Tonight Daddy brought little guy for ice cream since he was good this weekend and at school today. He once again wanted the green Mint ice cream. This time however, instead of sprinkles he wanted gummy bears. So in his last 3 visits to the ice cream shop he has asked for either pistachio or mint. You think he has a thing for green ice cream. Maybe he would like green eggs and ham. I should try making all of his food green. He does really like green beans and green jello. Maybe I have stumbled on to something.

Some Funnies from a Bad Day

So yesterday we are in the car headed home (son had a bad day at school) when I ask him what happened. He states matter of factly "It Stress!". So later in the conversation I tell him he needs to listen to his teachers. He tells me "Listening it logical!" I ask him if he knows what listening is and he tells me "I no listen, I big boy!" LOL

Happy Birthday

Just a note to say "Happy Birthday!" to my little guy who is now 3 years old. Boy how time flies. It doesn't seem like that long ago that you came into this world. My little man you came into the world at 9lbs 14 oz and 21.7" long. I am sure that time will continue to fly by and I will be amazed by how fast you have grown. Speaking of grown, you are still such a big boy. I am looking forward to seeing Dr. Ingraham on Thursday to get the official scoop on just how much you have grown. I know that you are still off the charts, as usual. My sweet little guy. You surprise me everyday with the things you do and say. Just wanted to let you know that I love you and that I am enjoying watching you grow up.

Busy Birthday Weekend

What a wild weekend! We celebrated Maddox's birthday this weekend throwing a Scooby Doo party at the house. Before the party Maddox was really tired and had a rough patch. For a little bit I thought he might be a "no show" at his own party, but he came around. He had a great time and enjoyed showing off his Scooby cake that his Aunt Kass made him.

He made sure that each one of his Scooby's had their own plate and small glass to enjoy the party.

His cousin Ali helped him blow out the candles and fun was add by all with the Scooby pinata.

Maddox enjoyed having his friends come over to play. Thanks for sharing with us to: Landon, Seth, Sage, Ali, Billy, Michael, Katelyn, Madelyn and all the grown ups. "Thanks!" Maddox spent the rest of the day playing with all of his new stuff. Now I have to find places for everything..gives me a reason to sort through the old stuff. On Sunday we took Maddox to see the Backyardigans Live.

He absolutely LOVED it. He even got up and danced a little jig in the aisle. Overall the weekend turned out well for my little 3 year old.

Tropical Storm Edouard

Tropical Storm Edouard had me off work early on Monday to prepare for the storm. Spent the day getting supplies. Was going to pick up Maddox when I got off work around noon and then realized it was nap time at daycare. I decided it would be best for both of us if I waited until nap time was over. He sleeps so much better there for nap time than he does at the house. I think they put something in the food. Spent the rest of the day just getting stuff together.
Tuesday we spent the morning hanging out watching cartoons. Once again while Mommy tried to sleep my little darling played wrestle mania on my head. When he got a little too agressive and bit my arm I decided it was time to venture out of the house. It rained yesterday morning but nothing major the storm was East of us. We went to Daddy's office where we found Landon, Jodie & Bryan. I could tell right off Maddox was in rare form he didn't want to play. It was nap time in a big way. We grabbed some lunch and then I took him home to put him down for a nap. He wouldn't go to sleep. I didn't get him down for a much needed nap until 3pm. I was about to pull my hair out. I was so looking forward to getting things done yesterday but with my little guy nothing got finished. I had my hands full just keeping up with him.

Statement of the Morning

Little guy wakes up from a dead sleep stretches his arms and proclaims "I BIG ENOUGH!" Then he repeats, "I big enough just like Daddy!". Then he proceeds to fall right back to sleep.

A Change in Routine

My little guy is all about routine. He likes things a certain way. We aren't on a tight schedule or anything like that but he just has his particulars. For instance, when we leave daycare each day he goes to the water fountain and fills up, then off to the bowl of suckers behind the counter ( for the last 10 months he always picks the same flavor... ALWAYS), the he takes a ride on the little push Merri-go-round they have at daycare (he only likes to go around once and always puts it back in the same spot when he finishes), then we go to the car. He rarely eats his suckers but when he does he hands me the paper wrapper.

So yesterday I pick him up at daycare and we skip the fountain...no biggie.... he goes to the candy bowl and picks out two totally new flavors and hands me one. "This is for you Mommy!" I am just in shock that he picked out two different flavors. My whole console in my car is filled with suckers that are the exact same flavor. The truly amazing part is that he ate the sucker he got. I figured he would try it and say "OOOOh Yucky!" They keep you on your toes.

Baby

This morning while getting my son ready for daycare he tells me, "We need baby!" He then points out "Mommy I need baby sisser!". I ask him if he knows what a baby sister is. "Baby sisser is girl baby." So he tells me again " Mommy I need baby sisser." Daddy comes in the room and says are you sure you want a sister and not a brother? "I want baby sisser, no need brover!"

I guess he is more ready to have an addition to the family than I am. LOL

The Sun

My son goes to bed by the Sun and as he likes to say "I wake up with the Sun!" Lately he is very curious about the Sun. He is constantly asking if the Sun is out or if it is going Night Night. Today in the car it was overcast but still bright out.

Son: "I want to give the Sun a hug!"
Mommy: "Why does the Sun need a hug?"
Son: "The sun is very sad!"
Mommy: "Why is the Sun sad?"
Son: "He is hiding behind the clouds!"
Mommy: "What made him unhappy?"
Son: "He crying like a baby! He need a hug to make him happy again!"
Then he went on to talk about something else. Just one of those cute little conversations.

Snakes In the Carpet

A week or so ago at daycare a bunch of kids were pulling up the circle time carpet rug (you know the rugs with all the letters and pictures on them). Well the teacher got tired of them picking up the rug and told them "Watch out for the snakes under the rug!". I bet you can imagine all of the fun I have had with this one. Every where we go my son tells me "Mommy, Look out snake!". The other night we were sitting in the living room on the couch and with his feet in the air he says to me "Snakes in our rug Mommy!". Then about 11:30pm he wakes up and walks down the hall to find me. In his half asleep manner he says to me "Mommy, lip hurts snake bit it. Still in mouth, get it out!" So I pretend to remove a snake from his mouth and give him a kiss on the forehead. We go back to his room and after telling me Thank you! he immediately falls back to sleep. So now he sees snakes everywhere and dreams that they bite him. Remind me to thank the teacher. On the up side he doesn't pick up the carpet in our living room.

Gym Party

To get my son to go stay at our gym's daycare we told him from the beginning that he was going to a gym party. We figured if we told him it was a party he would want to go and wouldn't be as unsure of it. It worked beautifully. In the last 3-4 months I would say he has been @ 4 times. So we don't bring him often, usually my hubby watches him while I am at the gym. Today hubby had to work late so it was time for a trip to the gym party. He usually gets really excited and he really likes it. Today he tells me "I no want go to gym party! There are zombies at the gym party!" Me: "There are what at the gym party?" Son: " Zombies Mommy, There are zombies at the gym party!" LOL...As soon as we got there and he saw there was a cartoon on the big TV he took of running to go have fun at the gym party. So I guess the zombies didn't stick around.

I know if you read my other blog it is pretty much the same post, but bear with me.

Fish Food

A short little funny. While eating pizza my little guy likes to play with the shakers on the tables. At a pizza joint there are lots of shakers on the table. He starts with the cheese, then pepper flakes, moves on to salt and pepper. He fills up a whole plate with pepper then looks at it and says "I need feed the fishies with my fish food." I guess it all looked like the fish food they have at school.

Group Hug

This morning we were all having a lazy day laying in bed. My son rolled over and said "Mommy I need hug and kiss! after he got a hug and kiss from me he rolled over to Daddy and got a hug and kiss from him. He went back and forth doing this for several minutes then decided we should all have a big group hug. It is moments like that you get the warm fuzzies!

Baseball Game

On Tuesday we all went to watch the Astros host Rangers at Minute Maid park. It was a great game in which the Astros won. We got there early to get a free Silver Boot shirt. I believe they were worth the wait in the long line in the sun. About 10-15 min before the gates were to open my little guy looks up at me and says "Mommy I go poo poo!" I don't know what to do. We are half-way back in a long line waiting to get in. There are no bathrooms outside the park and I am sure they will not let us in. So I do the only thing I can think of.... I ask him to hold it. He agrees and I pray. I held him for most of the rest of the time outside so that he wouldn't run around and stir anything up..lol. We made it! He held it just fine. We went straight to potty. Then I left him hanging out with the crew (Mr. Bryan, Ms. Jodie, Landon, Mr. Danny & Miss Nicole)so that I could go grab us something to eat. We shared chicken strips and french fries. He actually ate more than I thought he would. Before the game even started he asked if we could go home. I was worried that this was a sign of a really long night. Right about the time the game got under way. Daddy showed up. The game was good. Son was squirmy. Food was good. Landon and Maddox had a great time. Son slept all night in his own bed, he was so tired afterwards. Yeah!!

Vacation, Swim Lessons, Kung Foo, Sleep, Etc.

This past weekend we had a family vacation to San Antonio. It was a great trip and Maddox had a blast. The first day we were there we went to Sea World. The killer whales, skiiers, sharks and feeding the dolphins were all real big hits. Just want to say a special thanks to the Rhodes clan for lending us their wagon. It came in super handy during nap time at Sea World.

The next day we went to the Children's Museum. He had a blast. He ran around playing with everything.(Planes, trains, tractors, bubbles, cows) You name it they had it. The rest of the weekend he wanted to go back and play.

We went to lunch at the Buckhorn. It is a cool place with lots to see. We wanted to take the tour of the whole place but the little guy was running on fumes and fell asleep during lunch.

Later that evening went to the Riverwalk for dinner. He loved watching the boats go by but we never got a chance to take a trip on one, A) it was never close B) by the point in the day it would be good to do it. He was not on his best behavior. So no fun boat rides for him.

On Saturday we spent some time at the Wax museum and at Ripley's. He was a little scared of some of the wax people. Especially the Joker from Batman. Overall I think he enjoyed checking out all of the wax people and the interesting stuff at Ripley's.

We had lunch at Landry's after getting a coupon for a free desert/appetizer. It was good. The highlight of this part of the adventure was that my lovely son went to the bathroom 5 times during lunch. Can you believe he actually pottied each time. Trip #1his dad brought him and he peed. As soon as they got back to the table and sat down. You hear " I go potty!" Trip #2 He has to go poo poo. I am not joking on this one. As soon as they get back to the table and sit down again. "I go potty!" Trip #3 Mommy brings him to potty. He poo poos again on the potty. We return to the table. We actually sit for a little bit. Then once again "I go potty!" Trip #4 Mommy takes him again and he peed in the potty. You would think he had nothing left at this point. One final time before we leave the restaurant Trip #5 He went again. Wow and I would like to point out that not one of those trips involved a half attempt. You would swear he hadn't been yet that day. The rest of the afternoon he napped and he spent the evening hanging out with Granny.

Highlights of recent things. Over the last week...some on the trip some before.
Maddox has decided it is time to pee in the potty standing. He actually thinks it is a fun game. So far so good. He has pretty good aim and he is still letting us know when he has to go #2.

He has slept through the night in his own bed 2 times this past week. For many of you this will come as a shock. My son still wakes up in the middle of the night and usually at about 3-4am he will come in our room and climb in what he calls Daddy bed.

Kung Foo... Since a little before Kung Foo Panda and especially after he has been doing karate moves. I guess one of the other little boys in his class introduced him to it and KFP reinforced it. He does the cutest little punching kicking routine. I will have to post the video when I get a chance. We have also had to collect the action figures from McDonald's happy meals lately too. We are only missing a couple. lol
We have officially finished swim lessons. Atleast for now. I plan on trying to bring him to the pool as often as I can to work on what he has already learned. Wish me luck.

Food Lingo

Maddox has certain lingo for different restaurants. If we ask him what he wants for dinner and he says "I want bread and ice cream", that means he wants to go to Ryan's. If he says "I want chips and cheese", that means he wants Don Julio's Mexican food or any other Mexican food where he can get chips and queso. If he says "I want juice", that means he wants Sonic. If he says "I want to see clown", that means he wants to go play/eat at McDonald's. If he says "I want dinner!", that could be any meal. It just means he is hungry. Also his newest thing is that he says "Mommy I need (fill in the blank) grow bigger stronger!" His goal is to be bigger/stronger than daddy or Superman/Batman.

That was close!

Yesterday evening we were went to drop off my old car at the mechanic. On the way there Maddox was in the booster seat by the window cause it was still in the car from the weekend. So he has a different perspective of the road than he usually does. We were in the turn lane about to go over the Calder overpass and there were about 6 cars waiting to turn or go straight and he says "Mommy watch out for cars!" So the light turns green and we make our turn and I hear from the backseat "Whoa That Was Close!" I busted out laughing cause in order to hit those cars I would have had to turn the steering wheel very sharply and then run over a median to get them.

Patience I Didn't Know He Had

Last night a couple of friends came over with their little one. He just turned a year old and is barely walking. His joy of the evening was trying to play with my son. At one point he took great pleasure in grabbing and pulling his hair. My son is 3 times this little ones size so I expected the worse. He only looked at me and said "Mommy he pulling my hair hard!" I was so surprised he didn't retaliate at all no matter what the little one did to him. At one point he was even letting the little one chase him around the living room. I was a little worried cause lately my son can be a little rough. He is sweet and very empathetic but all BOY. So you never know what you might get.

The Boys

The boys have been hanging out lately and here are a few good shots. The other night they were at the house watching TV. Friday afternoon they got treated to Kung Fu Panda and some popcorn. Today they played in the sprinkler in the back yard, went to Coldstone for ice cream, went to McDonalds to burn off some steam in the play area and then got to watch a movie while playing in the tent Daddy set up in the living room. My favorite part of today was when we were headed to get ice cream and I told them we were going to get ice cream and Maddox says "Can't Wait!" and Landon says "Can't Wait!". They really are two peas in a pod. I am glad they get along so well.

Memorial Weekend at Mr. Danny's Camp

We had a great time at Mr. Danny's camp. Maddox had a blast playing with his best friends Landon.
We had a long drive over on Friday night. We got there Saturday morning about 3:30am and went straight to bed.
Saturday
Woke up in the morning around 7:30am. Maddox wanted to go outside. So we went and sat on the deck and waited for the rest of the crew to make it out of bed. Jodie and I blew up the pool for the boys to play in on the back deck. They loved it. They threw the balls and the super friends dive toys in the water. They even got Mr. Danny in the water. We later went out on the boat. Both of the boys fell asleep on the way out there but woke up when we stopped and got in the water. Landon loved the water Maddox liked it but since Daddy was in the boat he wanted to be in the boat. At one point he said he had to go potty but wouldn't do it in the water so Daddy held on to him as he pee'd overboard. We all got back in the boat which was an event. There is no ladder on the boat so it was tough to get out cause we were in water over our heads. After that the boys enjoyed helping Mr. Danny drive the boat back. For the rest of the evening we hung out and watched TV and sat on the deck. We got some great entertainment from some people who sunk their boat in the slip right across the street. It was a sight.
Sunday
We woke up around 7:30am again. The boys played in the pool on the deck again. Danny's parents came over and we took two boats out to the island. It was a nice ride out. We saw a couple of dolphins jump in front of us as we went out. When we got there since the boys were sleeping they thought they should fish first. The water was very choppy and it was hot. Not a good combination for the stomach. We decided to jump on the other boat and go to the island. The water was very choppy on the front of the island. We pulled it around to the side and anchored the boats in shallow water and waded to the beach. Mommy got a little sick after getting off the boat. The beach was gorgeous with all of the crabs in all different kinds of shells. Don't think I have even seen that many crabs on a beach at one time. It was beautiful. The boys played in the sand for awhile. Ms. Jodie brought the boys sandwiches and they ate on the beach. The big boys caught some bait fish since Mr. Danny left the shrimp bait back at the camp. Then Daddy, Mr. Brian and Mr. Danny's parents went out to fish. The rest of us stayed and played on the beach and waded in the water. It was a beautiful day. The dolphins came close a couple of times where we could see them. That was pretty neat to be so close to them. Mommy got hit by a fish on the back while talking to Ms. Jodie and Ms. Nicole. The boys had fun swimming and playing in the boat. After a while we headed back but the boat needed oil so we went to the Marina. Landon had fun going commando in his swim shorts all weekend. He christened the area near the aquarium at the marina. Maddox had Mr. Danny hold him by the side of the boat earlier in the trip so he could pee off the side again. He wouldn't go in the water...lol. Mommy got a nasty burn from holding Maddox in the back of the boat on the way back to the camp. It was almost as nice as Ms. Nicole's burn. We got back to the camp and had dinner. Mr. Danny & Mr. Brian fixed the broken blender and made everyone's night. Well the ladies anyway. We all turned in pretty early.
Monday
Woke up around 7:30 again.... The boys threw some animal crackers to the birds off the dock and had fun throwing rocks at the neighboring camp steps. We cleaned up the camp and headed out. We had a great lunch on the way back of seafood. Daddy got a ticket in Broussard in a speed trap, but it was still a great weekend. We even got Ms. Nicole back in plenty of time to head out for her trip to San Antonio.

Ballgame

Thursday a friend gave us some tickets to the Astros game. We decided to skip swim lessons and see the baseball game. Free tickets don't come along often. My son loved the game. He has been to several now and loves cheering with the rest of the crowd. The 'Stros lost but that was alright because it was a good game. Lots of action. After the game while walking back to the truck my son let us know he had to pee. He told us he would pee on tree and his dad told him nope not a good idea lets wait till we get back to the truck. He then said "I pee on wheel!" Needless to say it was his first pee outside experience but I am sure there will be many too come.

Preschooler Secret Greeting

This is second hand but I just have to post about it. This morning my son started in the next room because of our incident yesterday. There are several kids in this class that my son knows well. This morning my husband dropped him off and walked him to the new room on the other side of the building. He says that as soon as our son walked in his buddy Jacob who just recently moved up a couple of weeks ago came up to him and they did some sort of friend greeting. They were standing face to face and they bumped bellies and then touched foreheads. My husband said it looked like some sort of secret lodge handshake kind of thing. Now preschoolers have their own secret greetings… How funny is that?

Bite of the Century

I usually do not blog about bad things that happen but today I get a call from daycare. My son has been bitten. So he has gotten bit many times before. Well this time it broke the skin through the clothing he had on. So it wasn't teeth to bare skin. His shirt was in the way and the little boy still broke skin. I didn't look at it until this evening and I am glad I didn't. It looks pretty bad. I had a talk with the daycare director. They are going to move him to the next class starting tomorrow. This isn't too big of a reprieve the other little boy moves up soon as well. I hope that things calm down cause I was so ready to quit that daycare today. I can't wait to hear what my husband has to tell them tomorrow.

Warm & Fuzzy

Last night in the middle of the night I get a tap on my arm and hear “Mommy I need go potty!” So I groggily roll out of bed and into the bathroom. I get him on the potty and he goes. He then looks up at me with this glazed look and says “Mommy I love you!”. It was one of those sweet moments. I just wish it hadn’t been at 3am.
PS: Yes I am very lucky that my son will wake me up in the middle of the night when he has to go potty. Pretty amazing for one who is not yet 3 years old.

Pay off

Swimming lessons have started to pay off. In the past my son has not liked to get his head wet. If you put him on his back in the water his head would be out of the water with his feet straight up in the air. As the lessons have gone on the feet are now in the water and the head is more in. This weekend while taking a bath my son laid down in the tub on his back. Ears were in the water and everything. He just laid there all relaxed like he was in a tropical pool or something on a beautiful day. It is wonderful how relaxed in the water he has become. If nothing else comes of swimming lessons we have made some progress. I am hoping that lessons get better as lately he has not wanted to go. Hopefully they will get better in the second half of the session but no matter what he has made progress from when he started.

Success

I hope I am not writing this prematurely but yesterday while in the mall buying shoes for my little guy with extra wide feet he turns to me and says "Mommy I need go poo poo in the potty!". So we proceed to the mall bathrooms and sure enough he hasn't had an accident so I put him on the potty. AFter just about a minute he poops.... I am THRILLED!!!!! At daycare they said he hadn't asked to poo poo on the potty they just notice him trying to hide and corral him to the restroom. So I believe this is a major step in the right direction. So for going yesterday he got a batman monster truck and a Build a Bear Monkey in a Batman suit named Friday.

I very Hungry!

Lately my son says the cutest thing! "I very hungry Mommy! I eat so I get big and strong" and then he flexes his muscles. It is just adorable unless of course I am trying to get him to go to sleep. Before bed he likes to tell me this and I wonder if he actually has a bottomless pit for a stomach. He will have already had dinner and probably a snack too. I guess he is just a growing boy, cause he eats often! Man he can put away some food for his size. Good thing he is so active. I am wondering if maybe he is about to hit another growth spurt. I guess it is about time since I just bought him all new summer clothes. Figures.

Potty Progress

Picked up my son from daycare today and noticed on his sheet there was a star next to Potty. He poo poo'ed in the potty. Hoooray!!! Then I notice that there in the next column is also noted a poo poo accident. So we are not there yet but making progress. I am going to get him a surprise and make a big deal out of his going in the potty and maybe he will do it again, and again and again.... Life without cleaning up poop... Priceless.... well atleast till we have another one.

Scary Balloon

At the house we have what remains of a helium balloon that Granny gave my son. It is all but deflated. It has been hanging around literally for months now. Well it migrated into the hallway where my son rediscovered it. He brought it into the living room and was playing with it on his slide right under one of two fans we have in the room. He let it go and up it drifted right into the blades of the fan. As the fan pelted the poor balloon, my son is yelling "That Scary". So I guess he figured it was both fun and scary cause once the balloon came down he grabbed it again and climbed up the slide to let it go again, but this time once he let it go and it was on its way up he ran and dove behind the couch. As the balloon hit the fan again, you hear "Scary" coming from the floor behind the couch. He did this several times until the balloon got stuck on the ceiling for awhile. I go in the other room and I hear him calling me to come see. He was so excited I thought we might have company or something. Nope the balloon had gotten stuck on one of the blades and was going round and round in the fan. You could have sworn it was the best thing since sliced bread with my son. The entertainment factor of a mostly deflated helium balloon. Who would have thought.

Granny!!!!

Ok so lets start this off with I love my mom! (Granny). Everyday lately my son wants to see Granny. That is wonderful you say. Well he says it constantly " I wanna go see Granny!", "I wanna go Granny church!", "I wanna go back Granny!" "When granny coming!" She comes to visit or we see her about 1-2 times per month. So it isn't like we see her everyday, but we do see her. I am getting to the point where it is like...."Why aren't you happy to just be here enjoying whatever we are doing at the time! I know you love her and want to spend time with her but do you have to remind me every 5 minutes all afternoon."

You know Granny if you are reading this you could just move over here and make my life a lot easier by not having to hear “I wanna see Granny”, he could just go see you any time…. Problem solved….

Swimming Lessons Update

Swimming Lessons are going well. Maddox likes them very much. He is still not crazy about putting his head under. He doesn't like his eyes wet. He likes to blow bubbles and kick around the pool. He is a little more tame in the water than the two girls in his class. He is really progressing with his back float or should I say laying in the water while the teacher holds on. He now relaxes a little while he is doing it. His legs don't shoot straight up in the air and he doesn't try to hold his head up. I am anxious to see what he will be able to do by the end of the program.

Deeewishus!!!

Sometimes you wonder where they hear things and pick them up from. The other night we were at a friends house. They had a BBQ cookout. My son and his best bud were sitting at the little table about to enjoy the cutest hamburger cupcakes. My son takes a bite of the icing and exclaims “Deeewishus!” Everyone had to take a minute to laugh. It was too funny. My son ended up eating all of the icing off of the cupcake and leaving most of the cake part intact. That sugar monster. I figure he got the comment from Scooby Doo, but I guess we will never know!

The Space Race

Today we conquered the Space Race! We did the family 10 mile ride. I pulled my son behind me in the bike trailer. I was a little curious before we started out to see how it would go. We have never ridden that far before with him in the trailer. I told him we were going to race and he was excited. Before we got to the halfway point he told me a few times he wanted to go back and see Daddy and Granny. We stuck with it and finished. Half way through the park and the ride we hit a nasty head wind. Boy was that tough. When we got about 4 miles from the finish my son fell asleep in the trailer. Not very comfortable. WE DID IT!!!! When we got back we got to take pics near the McDonalds shoe car. We also got to see Ronald, The Hamburglar and Grimace. It was a great day to ride and I believe my BIG guy had a great time! Maybe next year we can try out one of those tandem bikes or something.

Swim Lessons

I have been anticipating the start of swimming lessons since I signed him up over a month ago. I believe I was more nervous than I needed to be. Mornings at daycare can be hard. He attaches himself to you and wont let go. When you leave he cries and runs and hides under the table sometimes. This gave me great fears for the first swim lesson adventure. I could just picture me dragging a kicking and screaming child out to the teacher. All my fears were for naught. He was good. He went right to the teacher and got right in the water. HE LOVED IT!!! The teacher had to keep telling him to sit down but other than that he was great. So far he is not a big fan of putting his face in the water or lying on his back in the water. Hopefully by the end of the two 30 minute sessions for 12 weeks he will be a little fish.

Visit to the Doctor

Yesterday I had to bring my son to the doctor to get his ear looked at. Over the weekend he had an earache and some drainage. He was in rare form for the visit. The whole time we were waiting to see the doctor he was wild. He was all over the place. He wouldn’t sit still. Once we got in the room to wait he took great pleasure in yelling/singing as loud as he could. I am sure that you could hear him all over the building. The more I would tell him to be quiet the louder he would get. Sometimes I think he enjoys watching me frustrated. When the doctor came in he was great he gave her no trouble, but she did say that she could hear him out in the halls. She said that even his yelling/singing was better than crying. He was given some eardrops and another round of antibiotics. Hopefully he will not have to have tubes put in his ears because he starts swimming lessons in a couple of weeks.

Future Rock Star

Tonight my son and I went to see his bestest buddy. Upstairs at his buddy's house my son found a microphone. He jammed out singing the Scooby Doo theme song like a future rock star the whole evening. He was jumping around and everything. It was just the funniest!

What a Sweetheart

So sweet… sometimes it just amazes me how purely sweet my son can be. Yesterday we went to the cemetery to visit the graves of my in-laws. Both passed away between when my son was 6 months old and his first birthday. When we got there he walked right up to the graves hopped up on his Maw Maw’s side and gave the headstone a kiss then walked right over to his Paw Paw’s side and planted a kiss on that headstone as well. We didn’t even prompt him or anything. It was a very precious moment that I am glad I was there to witness. I am sure that you are thinking we do this all the time or something but we don’t. We don’t make it home but once every couple of months and then we often don’t make it out to the cemetery.

Beautiful Day

Today was such a pretty day that I just knew we had to get out an enjoy it, at least for a little while. After I picked up my son from daycare he hopped in the jogging stroller and we headed to the park. It was so nice out. We played on all of the slides and swings, but he was very disappointed that the pool was locked up for the winter. He wanted to go swimming and play in the water. He really is my son...I am thinking about getting him in some swimming lessons this Spring if I can find some at the right time. I know he would enjoy it and so would I.

Skateboarding

Let me start with the back story. About a month ago we were out shopping for Christmas presents in a store and my son saw a skateboard. He says so seriously "Mommy I wanna skateboardie". Mommy replied "Sweetheart you are too small for a skateboard but you can ask Santa and see if he will bring you one!" Well he immediately says "Santa I wanna skateboardie!"
So as many of you know my husband is a pretty big guy he is 6'3" tall so he has pretty big feet. I bet you are wondering what this has to do with a kid wanting a skateboard. I am getting to that. So my husband got some inserts for his shoes recently. He was putting them in his tennis shoes when my son grabs one and runs to the hallway floor puts it down and stands on it like a skateboard and yells out "Mommy I gotta skateboardie!" I had to laugh. Here was my son skateboarding on my husbands shoe inserts and the funny thing was it looked like he was on a skateboard.

UPDATE

Just thought I would take this chance at the beginning of the new year 2008 and do a recap on all of the things my son is doing.
He loves Scooby Doo and the Rescue Heroes. He just got his toddler bed but is still ending up in my bed by the morning. We are still working on the potty training. He will go in the potty but you have to make sure you get him to the potty to use it. He wont ask to go on his own usually. He loves cheetos, fruit snacks, juice boxes, ice cream, chips and queso, pizza, anything with ketchup and scooby snacks. He doesn't use a booster seat. He can drink out of a regular cup but we still give him sippy cups to prevent spillage. He got way too much stuff for Christmas. He loves to give hugs and kisses. He still isn't much for talking on the phone. He likes to sing. (Jingle Bells, Round Round Bus, 5 Little Monkeys, Its Bitsy Spider and the theme song to Scooby Doo) He is fascinated by scissors. He always wants to cut things. Mommy doesn't let him but he tries. He like bubbles and play dough. He likes to run and be chased. He is all boy and likes to fix things. He still hits and kicks but the biting is now few and far between. He is not a big fan of sharing, especially his toys and his food. Right now everything is Pink or Yellow. He loves animals. Esecially dogs and turtles. He is a great kid with lots of love and energy.

My Recent Favorites

Here are some examples of my favorite events and behaviors from my son.
- Yesterday as we were putting together my son’s new toddler bed in his room, he rolls his truck down the hall and stops in the doorway, looks at us and says “What's goin on guys?”
- More from this event was the fact that he kept calling his new bed an airplane/helicopter.
- When we finished putting the bed together it was precious to see him dance around the room so excitedly.
- Lately when my son doesn’t want to do something he says “Get me out of here!” I try not to laugh but I think it is just too cute.
- He has several phrases that he says quite often that are also worth noting….”I fix you!”, “Yeeehaw!”, “That better!”, “Follow me”, "Mommy come see me", and my favorite “I pick you up!” (which means mommy please hold me!)
- My mom reminded me of this one. When we took apart my sons crib to get ready for the big boy toddler bed. My son walks in and says "Daddy broke my bed!" He was sooo upset until we started assembling his new one!

No Mommy Birthday!!!

Ok so today is my birthday! My son absolutely refuses to acknowledge that it is my birthday. I share it with my sister and he has no problem saying Happy Birthday Shyra..... or anyone else but not me. I say Happy Birthday Mommy and he says Happy Birthday Daddy or Happy Birthday Granny or even Happy Birthday to himself. We start to sing Happy Birthday and we get to the part where you say the name and he says Daddy. It is just hilarious!!! Thought you might like a good laugh on Mommy's birthday!

Christmas Lights

More lights Mommy.... More lights Mommy.... My son loves to ride around the neighborhoods in our area and check out the Christmas lights. He especially likes the 3 piece trains with the moving light wheels. He knows who Santa Claus is but doesn't really understand the whole concept yet.

Tyler Bite You?

If you are around our house you will likely hear this phrase..."Tyler bite you?" or "Ohhh Tyler bit you!". In case you are wondering Tyler is a little boy in my sons daycare class. Almost every day my son comes home asking if Tyler bit us or telling us that Tyler bit us. As some of you know there have been spells of biting at my sons daycare. He was bit quite a few times before he decided to take a chunk out of another child. Then we went through a rough spot where he bit all the time. Now it is occassional on his part but he still comes home with atleast a bite a week it seems like. I can't wait till the day where I no longer see a bright red ring of teeth marks on my sons arms or back. I am also looking forward to the day when I don't have to worry about Tyler and biting.

Scooby Dooby Doo! Where are you?

My little guy has taken a real interest in Scooby Doo. He loves to sing the theme song. It is the cutest thing. One of these days I am going to record him in the act. He loves Scooby so much that is what he is going to be for Halloween. For Halloween we had a Scooby marathon. My little guy dressed in Scooby costume watched a Scooby movie and 3 episode of the new Scooby Doo! and he even wanted more. He is a hard core Scooby fan. He says More Cooby Mommy!
