Swimming Lessons are going well. Maddox likes them very much. He is still not crazy about putting his head under. He doesn't like his eyes wet. He likes to blow bubbles and kick around the pool. He is a little more tame in the water than the two girls in his class. He is really progressing with his back float or should I say laying in the water while the teacher holds on. He now relaxes a little while he is doing it. His legs don't shoot straight up in the air and he doesn't try to hold his head up. I am anxious to see what he will be able to do by the end of the program.

Deeewishus!!!

Sometimes you wonder where they hear things and pick them up from. The other night we were at a friends house. They had a BBQ cookout. My son and his best bud were sitting at the little table about to enjoy the cutest hamburger cupcakes. My son takes a bite of the icing and exclaims “Deeewishus!” Everyone had to take a minute to laugh. It was too funny. My son ended up eating all of the icing off of the cupcake and leaving most of the cake part intact. That sugar monster. I figure he got the comment from Scooby Doo, but I guess we will never know!

The Space Race
Today we conquered the Space Race! We did the family 10 mile ride. I pulled my son behind me in the bike trailer. I was a little curious before we started out to see how it would go. We have never ridden that far before with him in the trailer. I told him we were going to race and he was excited. Before we got to the halfway point he told me a few times he wanted to go back and see Daddy and Granny. We stuck with it and finished. Half way through the park and the ride we hit a nasty head wind. Boy was that tough. When we got about 4 miles from the finish my son fell asleep in the trailer. Not very comfortable. WE DID IT!!!! When we got back we got to take pics near the McDonalds shoe car. We also got to see Ronald, The Hamburglar and Grimace. It was a great day to ride and I believe my BIG guy had a great time! Maybe next year we can try out one of those tandem bikes or something.

Swim Lessons
I have been anticipating the start of swimming lessons since I signed him up over a month ago. I believe I was more nervous than I needed to be. Mornings at daycare can be hard. He attaches himself to you and wont let go. When you leave he cries and runs and hides under the table sometimes. This gave me great fears for the first swim lesson adventure. I could just picture me dragging a kicking and screaming child out to the teacher. All my fears were for naught. He was good. He went right to the teacher and got right in the water. HE LOVED IT!!! The teacher had to keep telling him to sit down but other than that he was great. So far he is not a big fan of putting his face in the water or lying on his back in the water. Hopefully by the end of the two 30 minute sessions for 12 weeks he will be a little fish.

Visit to the Doctor
Yesterday I had to bring my son to the doctor to get his ear looked at. Over the weekend he had an earache and some drainage. He was in rare form for the visit. The whole time we were waiting to see the doctor he was wild. He was all over the place. He wouldn’t sit still. Once we got in the room to wait he took great pleasure in yelling/singing as loud as he could. I am sure that you could hear him all over the building. The more I would tell him to be quiet the louder he would get. Sometimes I think he enjoys watching me frustrated. When the doctor came in he was great he gave her no trouble, but she did say that she could hear him out in the halls. She said that even his yelling/singing was better than crying. He was given some eardrops and another round of antibiotics. Hopefully he will not have to have tubes put in his ears because he starts swimming lessons in a couple of weeks.

Future Rock Star
Tonight my son and I went to see his bestest buddy. Upstairs at his buddy's house my son found a microphone. He jammed out singing the Scooby Doo theme song like a future rock star the whole evening. He was jumping around and everything. It was just the funniest!

What a Sweetheart
So sweet… sometimes it just amazes me how purely sweet my son can be. Yesterday we went to the cemetery to visit the graves of my in-laws. Both passed away between when my son was 6 months old and his first birthday. When we got there he walked right up to the graves hopped up on his Maw Maw’s side and gave the headstone a kiss then walked right over to his Paw Paw’s side and planted a kiss on that headstone as well. We didn’t even prompt him or anything. It was a very precious moment that I am glad I was there to witness. I am sure that you are thinking we do this all the time or something but we don’t. We don’t make it home but once every couple of months and then we often don’t make it out to the cemetery.

Beautiful Day
Today was such a pretty day that I just knew we had to get out an enjoy it, at least for a little while. After I picked up my son from daycare he hopped in the jogging stroller and we headed to the park. It was so nice out. We played on all of the slides and swings, but he was very disappointed that the pool was locked up for the winter. He wanted to go swimming and play in the water. He really is my son...I am thinking about getting him in some swimming lessons this Spring if I can find some at the right time. I know he would enjoy it and so would I.

Skateboarding

Let me start with the back story. About a month ago we were out shopping for Christmas presents in a store and my son saw a skateboard. He says so seriously "Mommy I wanna skateboardie". Mommy replied "Sweetheart you are too small for a skateboard but you can ask Santa and see if he will bring you one!" Well he immediately says "Santa I wanna skateboardie!"
So as many of you know my husband is a pretty big guy he is 6'3" tall so he has pretty big feet. I bet you are wondering what this has to do with a kid wanting a skateboard. I am getting to that. So my husband got some inserts for his shoes recently. He was putting them in his tennis shoes when my son grabs one and runs to the hallway floor puts it down and stands on it like a skateboard and yells out "Mommy I gotta skateboardie!" I had to laugh. Here was my son skateboarding on my husbands shoe inserts and the funny thing was it looked like he was on a skateboard.

UPDATE

Just thought I would take this chance at the beginning of the new year 2008 and do a recap on all of the things my son is doing.
He loves Scooby Doo and the Rescue Heroes. He just got his toddler bed but is still ending up in my bed by the morning. We are still working on the potty training. He will go in the potty but you have to make sure you get him to the potty to use it. He wont ask to go on his own usually. He loves cheetos, fruit snacks, juice boxes, ice cream, chips and queso, pizza, anything with ketchup and scooby snacks. He doesn't use a booster seat. He can drink out of a regular cup but we still give him sippy cups to prevent spillage. He got way too much stuff for Christmas. He loves to give hugs and kisses. He still isn't much for talking on the phone. He likes to sing. (Jingle Bells, Round Round Bus, 5 Little Monkeys, Its Bitsy Spider and the theme song to Scooby Doo) He is fascinated by scissors. He always wants to cut things. Mommy doesn't let him but he tries. He like bubbles and play dough. He likes to run and be chased. He is all boy and likes to fix things. He still hits and kicks but the biting is now few and far between. He is not a big fan of sharing, especially his toys and his food. Right now everything is Pink or Yellow. He loves animals. Esecially dogs and turtles. He is a great kid with lots of love and energy.

My Recent Favorites
Here are some examples of my favorite events and behaviors from my son.
- Yesterday as we were putting together my son’s new toddler bed in his room, he rolls his truck down the hall and stops in the doorway, looks at us and says “What's goin on guys?”
- More from this event was the fact that he kept calling his new bed an airplane/helicopter.
- When we finished putting the bed together it was precious to see him dance around the room so excitedly.
- Lately when my son doesn’t want to do something he says “Get me out of here!” I try not to laugh but I think it is just too cute.
- He has several phrases that he says quite often that are also worth noting….”I fix you!”, “Yeeehaw!”, “That better!”, “Follow me”, "Mommy come see me", and my favorite “I pick you up!” (which means mommy please hold me!)
- My mom reminded me of this one. When we took apart my sons crib to get ready for the big boy toddler bed. My son walks in and says "Daddy broke my bed!" He was sooo upset until we started assembling his new one!

No Mommy Birthday!!!
Ok so today is my birthday! My son absolutely refuses to acknowledge that it is my birthday. I share it with my sister and he has no problem saying Happy Birthday Shyra..... or anyone else but not me. I say Happy Birthday Mommy and he says Happy Birthday Daddy or Happy Birthday Granny or even Happy Birthday to himself. We start to sing Happy Birthday and we get to the part where you say the name and he says Daddy. It is just hilarious!!! Thought you might like a good laugh on Mommy's birthday!

Christmas Lights
More lights Mommy.... More lights Mommy.... My son loves to ride around the neighborhoods in our area and check out the Christmas lights. He especially likes the 3 piece trains with the moving light wheels. He knows who Santa Claus is but doesn't really understand the whole concept yet.

Tyler Bite You?
If you are around our house you will likely hear this phrase..."Tyler bite you?" or "Ohhh Tyler bit you!". In case you are wondering Tyler is a little boy in my sons daycare class. Almost every day my son comes home asking if Tyler bit us or telling us that Tyler bit us. As some of you know there have been spells of biting at my sons daycare. He was bit quite a few times before he decided to take a chunk out of another child. Then we went through a rough spot where he bit all the time. Now it is occassional on his part but he still comes home with atleast a bite a week it seems like. I can't wait till the day where I no longer see a bright red ring of teeth marks on my sons arms or back. I am also looking forward to the day when I don't have to worry about Tyler and biting.

Scooby Dooby Doo! Where are you?
My little guy has taken a real interest in Scooby Doo. He loves to sing the theme song. It is the cutest thing. One of these days I am going to record him in the act. He loves Scooby so much that is what he is going to be for Halloween. For Halloween we had a Scooby marathon. My little guy dressed in Scooby costume watched a Scooby movie and 3 episode of the new Scooby Doo! and he even wanted more. He is a hard core Scooby fan. He says More Cooby Mommy!

Potty Time

Guess what??? It is potty time! My son has shown interest in the potty for quite awhile now. He likes to say potty and sit down on it, then wipe immediately, flush and wash his hands. He was just missing one important step… what you do while you are sitting there. Well yesterday for the first time he actually went pee pee on the potty. Woooo Whooo! I was a little surprised. They always say that boys take longer and he just turned 2 so I wasn’t expecting this for atleast another 6 months or so. By no means do I think this is the end of the journey to diaper freedom but it is a start. So wish us luck with our pottying future.

A 2 year old and a bottle of No. 5
What happens when you give a 2 year old something breakable?..They break it!
This past weekend was Grandparents Day. Well I didn’t know this at the time but it is important to the story.
We were visiting my sister and her husband for the weekend. The "We" was my son, me and my mother.
So I am in the living room and the rest of the crew were outside when I see through the curtains my son run for the door and try to get inside. He looks a little distraut by his actions so I go to open the door to see what is the matter. My mother and sister are just dying in shock and laughter. You know the disbelief you get when you want to cry but you have to laugh.
Well to fill in the gaps. My sister heard on the TV that morning that it was grandparents day. She had a bottle of Chanel No. 5 that she had planned to give our mother at some point. She decided that this would be the perfect occasion. So then she thinks wouldn’t it be cute if my son gave it to her. So she hands him the boxed bottle and says give this to Granny. They walk outside and he proceeds to throw it to her. It lands at her feet. Broken.. in the box. So as they are trying to recover, yours truly unwraps the bottle and tries to save the precious liquid inside. My sister and mother thought that this was just a hilarious turn of events, but I just felt sick with guilt.
So we save a decent amount of the liquid and decide to go scour the city to find a replacement bottle to put the contents in so it wont be a total waste. Several hours and several stores later we decide on medicine dropper bottles. So she ended up with 5 bottles of No. 5 in various sizes. Lesson from this….
Don’t get a 2 year old to hand something breakable to someone, no matter what the thought is behind it!

A Tattoo in His Future?
My son loves stickers... This is just like most kids... right? My son loves stickers but he wont stick them on things like paper or walls. He likes to put them on himself. All over especially on his arms. I just envision him in another 16-18 years with tattoos covering those arms. Isn't it interesting to watch a child and wonder what they will turn out to be or do in the future.....http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.photo.gif

Move.... I Got It!
Independence is a wonderful thing. My son has been testing the waters of things he wants to do himself. He lets me know when he wants to do it himself by stating very firmly.
“Move Mommy… I got it!” Which means back up I am going to try it on my own and I don’t want your help. Most of the time this is great, but occasionally he wants to try things that I am not quite ready for, like cutting his own food for example.
