My Recent Favorites

Here are some examples of my favorite events and behaviors from my son.
- Yesterday as we were putting together my son’s new toddler bed in his room, he rolls his truck down the hall and stops in the doorway, looks at us and says “What's goin on guys?”
- More from this event was the fact that he kept calling his new bed an airplane/helicopter.
- When we finished putting the bed together it was precious to see him dance around the room so excitedly.
- Lately when my son doesn’t want to do something he says “Get me out of here!” I try not to laugh but I think it is just too cute.
- He has several phrases that he says quite often that are also worth noting….”I fix you!”, “Yeeehaw!”, “That better!”, “Follow me”, "Mommy come see me", and my favorite “I pick you up!” (which means mommy please hold me!)
- My mom reminded me of this one. When we took apart my sons crib to get ready for the big boy toddler bed. My son walks in and says "Daddy broke my bed!" He was sooo upset until we started assembling his new one!

No Mommy Birthday!!!

Ok so today is my birthday! My son absolutely refuses to acknowledge that it is my birthday. I share it with my sister and he has no problem saying Happy Birthday Shyra..... or anyone else but not me. I say Happy Birthday Mommy and he says Happy Birthday Daddy or Happy Birthday Granny or even Happy Birthday to himself. We start to sing Happy Birthday and we get to the part where you say the name and he says Daddy. It is just hilarious!!! Thought you might like a good laugh on Mommy's birthday!

Christmas Lights

More lights Mommy.... More lights Mommy.... My son loves to ride around the neighborhoods in our area and check out the Christmas lights. He especially likes the 3 piece trains with the moving light wheels. He knows who Santa Claus is but doesn't really understand the whole concept yet.

Tyler Bite You?

If you are around our house you will likely hear this phrase..."Tyler bite you?" or "Ohhh Tyler bit you!". In case you are wondering Tyler is a little boy in my sons daycare class. Almost every day my son comes home asking if Tyler bit us or telling us that Tyler bit us. As some of you know there have been spells of biting at my sons daycare. He was bit quite a few times before he decided to take a chunk out of another child. Then we went through a rough spot where he bit all the time. Now it is occassional on his part but he still comes home with atleast a bite a week it seems like. I can't wait till the day where I no longer see a bright red ring of teeth marks on my sons arms or back. I am also looking forward to the day when I don't have to worry about Tyler and biting.

Scooby Dooby Doo! Where are you?

My little guy has taken a real interest in Scooby Doo. He loves to sing the theme song. It is the cutest thing. One of these days I am going to record him in the act. He loves Scooby so much that is what he is going to be for Halloween. For Halloween we had a Scooby marathon. My little guy dressed in Scooby costume watched a Scooby movie and 3 episode of the new Scooby Doo! and he even wanted more. He is a hard core Scooby fan. He says More Cooby Mommy!

Potty Time

Guess what??? It is potty time! My son has shown interest in the potty for quite awhile now. He likes to say potty and sit down on it, then wipe immediately, flush and wash his hands. He was just missing one important step… what you do while you are sitting there. Well yesterday for the first time he actually went pee pee on the potty. Woooo Whooo! I was a little surprised. They always say that boys take longer and he just turned 2 so I wasn’t expecting this for atleast another 6 months or so. By no means do I think this is the end of the journey to diaper freedom but it is a start. So wish us luck with our pottying future.

A 2 year old and a bottle of No. 5

What happens when you give a 2 year old something breakable?..They break it!
This past weekend was Grandparents Day. Well I didn’t know this at the time but it is important to the story.
We were visiting my sister and her husband for the weekend. The "We" was my son, me and my mother.
So I am in the living room and the rest of the crew were outside when I see through the curtains my son run for the door and try to get inside. He looks a little distraut by his actions so I go to open the door to see what is the matter. My mother and sister are just dying in shock and laughter. You know the disbelief you get when you want to cry but you have to laugh.
Well to fill in the gaps. My sister heard on the TV that morning that it was grandparents day. She had a bottle of Chanel No. 5 that she had planned to give our mother at some point. She decided that this would be the perfect occasion. So then she thinks wouldn’t it be cute if my son gave it to her. So she hands him the boxed bottle and says give this to Granny. They walk outside and he proceeds to throw it to her. It lands at her feet. Broken.. in the box. So as they are trying to recover, yours truly unwraps the bottle and tries to save the precious liquid inside. My sister and mother thought that this was just a hilarious turn of events, but I just felt sick with guilt.
So we save a decent amount of the liquid and decide to go scour the city to find a replacement bottle to put the contents in so it wont be a total waste. Several hours and several stores later we decide on medicine dropper bottles. So she ended up with 5 bottles of No. 5 in various sizes. Lesson from this….
Don’t get a 2 year old to hand something breakable to someone, no matter what the thought is behind it!

A Tattoo in His Future?

My son loves stickers... This is just like most kids... right? My son loves stickers but he wont stick them on things like paper or walls. He likes to put them on himself. All over especially on his arms. I just envision him in another 16-18 years with tattoos covering those arms. Isn't it interesting to watch a child and wonder what they will turn out to be or do in the future.....http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.photo.gif

Move.... I Got It!

Independence is a wonderful thing. My son has been testing the waters of things he wants to do himself. He lets me know when he wants to do it himself by stating very firmly.
“Move Mommy… I got it!” Which means back up I am going to try it on my own and I don’t want your help. Most of the time this is great, but occasionally he wants to try things that I am not quite ready for, like cutting his own food for example.

Tattletale

My little partner in crime.... told on me to Daddy. We went to the mall this past weekend. We were walking around when we passed the Godiva store. My son starts pointing wildy... Daddy Chocolate... Chocolate Daddy.... Then he proceeds to enter the store pulling my husband behind him and pointing on the case.... Daddy Chocolate.... Chocolate....My husband turns and looks at me. "So been here a few times have you?" The truth is I have only brought him there twice in the last year. I guess their chocolate left a lasting impression. I know I love it. I just can't believe I was ratted out by my two year old partner in crime.

The Chair

Months ago I bought the cutest little folding chair that is a bug. My son loves it but for awhile it has been in the trunk of my car. Well the other night I took it out and my son found it. Did I say he loves this chair. Well it was dinner time so I got his plate ready and called him to the table. He decides that tonight he will eat in his chair at the table. The only problem with this genious idea of his is that once he pulled it up to the table and sat down.... he was about 2 feet below his plate of food on the table. So he decided to stand up and get some food off his plate then sit down in his chair. After a few minutes he got tired of doing this and had another brilliant idea. He decided that if he stuck his chair on top of one of the regular chair that he would be able to reach his food. He never got far enough to try it out. Mommy decided this idea was unsafe. Well instead of deciding to just give in and sit in the regular chair, my son ate his meal standing at the table.

Doubling Up

At bedtime we had an interesting event last night. After taking his bath we were getting our son dressed, my husband put on his regular absorbent diaper and we were starting to put on his pj's when my son decided that he wanted to wear his swim diaper. As much as we refused he was insistant... he was even pulling off the diaper that we had just put on him....so the delimma was...let him wear the swim diaper and leak all over the bed, fight with him and listen to him whine and possibly strip the better diaper off or our 3rd option let him wear both..... Guess which option we picked... We let him wear both. He had on the regular diaper and then we slid the swim diaper on top but loosened the sides so it wouldn't be too tight on him. Problem solved right. Not yet! He then decided that he wanted to wear two shirts. That he wanted to put another shirt over the one he had so he could have both. We were however able to talk him out of that decision. He went to bed last night with 1 shirt, 1 pair of pants, 2 diapers and his swim shoes.

The Candy Curse

I swore I would be a GOOD mother and not allow my son to have sweets. I am not a big sweet eater so I didn't think that this would be too hard right. Well my son has found the bowl of candy at his daddy's office and he has found the bowl of dum dum's at daycare. He is addicted to what he calls Canny... He wakes up in the morning asking for canny. When we go to daycare he asks for canny...when we leave daycare he asks for canny... ( which he usually gets, but I will get to that in a minute). When we go to the store he asks for canny.... I LOATHE CANNY! Alright now for my moment of truth. I don't give in to canny much. I didn't start giving in to canny at all until lately (2-3 weeks ago). My son is sometimes the hardest child in the world to get into his car seat. Well one day he was especially good so I let him have a dum dum sucker for the first time as we were leaving daycare and I noticed how easy it was to get him into his seat with the lure that he would get his canny. Now it has become a ritual before we go to the car we get one dum dum. ( I don't feel too terribly guilty dum dum's are pretty small). The other time he gets candy is when he goes to his daddy's office. Only one piece of soft peppermint though... and the only reason this ever came to pass was because he saw a little girl who was there drag over a chair and climb on it to get her a piece of candy. So he started trying to drag chairs over to the candy jar at ( 14 months old) so his mommy figured it would be less dangerous if she just gave in and monitored him eating one piece of candy. (I tried hiding the jar of candy but that didn't work) Now unfortunately his sweet tooth has taken over and he is a CANNY Monster...sort of like the cookie monster.
If you have any ideas with this one please let me know......I would like to curb his sweet tooth.

Go Away

What do you think of when someone tells you to "Go Away!" Well this is heard all the time around my house. My son is constantly telling me and his Daddy to "Go Way!" The thing is he isn't being rude, he just hasn't learned yet how to say the full sentence...."Go this way!" So while he is giving direction to where he wants to go if the person on the receiving end is not familiar with his choice of words it is easy to get ones feelings hurt. So sometimes what you hear isn't always what is meant! Something to think about the next time you encounter a toddler....

Stuck On You

"Mommy stuck" My son loves to tell me that things are STUCK. If he can't open something it is STUCK, if he is wrapped up in something he is STUCK, if he is giving you a hug he is STUCK, if he is playing with a toy and it doesn't do what he wants it is STUCK! Let's just say lots of things around our house are suddenly STUCK like never before!

Shoe Fetish

My son has developed an obsession with wearing shoes. He must have shoes on his feet at all times. He even wants to sleep in his shoes. He cries and throws a fit when you try to remove his shoes. When he doesn't want to go somewhere or he is unhappy with where you are going he takes his shoes off in protest. He has even gotten to the point that he wants others to wear shoes all the time too. My husband had to put on his shoes to make pancakes for my son. It used to just be that he wanted you to put shoes on cause he wanted to go now he likes you to have your shoes on for whatever his reason of the moment is.

Boys not Girls

Today my lovely husband introduced my son to thinking boys are cool and girls are icky. He taught him how to say Boys Rule which ended up sounding more like Boys Roll. I kept trying to tell him that girls were great too but he kept telling me "No Mommy! No Girls!"

Introduction to the Boss of Me

My name is Mel. I have an almost 2 year old son, who thinks he is the boss of me. This is a blog about my trials, tribulation, joys and revelations in being a mother of the Boss.
He is a cute little boy with blonde-brown hair and the biggest dark brown puppy dog eyes you will ever see. He is as smart as a whip and as strong as an ox. He is big for his age. He has a soft heart that he wears on his sleave.
I like to think I am tough but have realized that I am probably just a softy at heart when it comes to my son. He has me wrapped around his finger and I think he knows it.
